Rammed Earth
Droombos is well-known and totally unique to Namibia due in part to its rammed earth structures. Rammed earth is an age-old construction method that is largely forgotten today.

Ancient rammed earth has been found in Neolithic archaeological sites of the Yangshao and Longshan cultures along the Yellow river in China dating to 5000 years BC. The oldest excavated site however is at Jericho which dates from 8300 BC, making it the earliest city in the world.

Rammed earth is non-toxic and the healthy interior environment of an earthen home is a refreshing alternative. Further benefits include superior thermal mass, temperature and noise control. Rammed earth structures are very low on maintenance and known for its strength and durability.

The beautiful rammed earth walls owes its color to the natural red sand found across Namibia.
